NVQ On-Site Assessments – Electrical Installation
The NVQ follows the Level 2 and Level 3 Diplomas in Electrical Installation in which you learn the technical knowledge and practical ability required to be an electrician.
After you have completed the L2 and L3 Diplomas (often called the “tech. cert.” or 2365), either at Erudite or elsewhere, you must demonstrate your ability in the work place: this is what the NVQ portfolio is intended to demonstrate. The assessments involve an assessor visiting you on-site on three separate occasions over a minimum period of six months (maximum of 24 months) to collect evidence in the form of photographs, video evidence, expert witness testimony and records of professional discussions.
It is up to you to ensure you are working with a qualified electrician on the dates the assessor visits, demonstrating a range of work on each occasion to cover all aspects of the NVQ requirements. Both you and the assessor will need to perform written records of your work and present this in a completed portfolio of evidence, demonstrating your competency in the workplace.
Once you have completed your NVQ, your final hurdle will be booking your two-day AM2 trade test at a NET centre through the Joint Industry Board (JIB), allowing JIB to recognise you as fully qualified and satisfying the requirements for a JIB gold card.
