Domestic Electrical Installer Course
There has been some confusion of late regarding the requirements for registration under the Part P self-certification schemes. This has caused problems for anyone wanting to come into the industry, making it unclear which qualifications are essential and which ones are preferred, etc.
Erudite Training has tried to dispel this confusion by working directly with several of the Part P bodies. We are working closely with Stroma, and have been assured that the following combination of qualifications in our package is relevant and will meet the requirements of their registration process.
This course is aimed at anyone wanting to get into the industry, but will also cover those that want to gain registration and to work self-employed/start an electrical contracting business, carrying out notifiable work enabling self-certification.
What we would suggest for all of our Domestic Installer students would be to complete the course with a view to gaining employment in the industry, to allow you to gain the relevant experience. This approach ensures that you have the relevant skill set should you decide that you want to work for yourself. It also means that you are less likely to find yourself in the position of not being competent to complete any work undertaken, which is not only an awkward position to find yourself in but could also be dangerous for any potential clients, (unacceptable and could land you in legal trouble).
Whilst working in the industry you will be gaining the required knowledge to be able to register. There is a requirement that each candidate should have industry experience before registering with one of the appropriate Part P registration bodies: the level of experience required would depend on which registration body you chose and we would advise speaking to each one before making a decision. Once you have the relevant experience, the next step would be for the registration body to come out and assess your work. For more info on what they want to see, a conversation with them will clear up any confusion.
