City & Guilds 2393 – Building Regulations for Electrical Installations
The Building Regulations are Statutory, meaning that they MUST be followed without question. It is very difficult to follow rules that you are not aware of, however, the Building Regulations state that lack of knowledge cannot be used as a defence for not complying with the Regulations.
As soon as anyone mentions Building Regulations, people automatically think Part P. That’s all well and good as Part P deals electrical safety in dwellings, but the problem is that there are other Building Regulations that apply to us as electricians; for instance the Passage of Fire through a Building (Part F). When drilling through a wall, from one room to another, the hole must be repaired to the same level of fire resistance as before the hole was drilled to stop the passage of fire.
We need to know about these regulations and how to comply with them. This is where the Building Regulations Course comes into its own; it will make you aware of all the areas in which your installation may stray from Part P into other areas of the Building Regulations, as well as going through ways to comply with the relevant Sections.
There are no formal entry requirements for this course and it may also be relevant to other trades people as well as surveyors.
